Cottage With Figures
Gray and light brown ink drawing on
antique laid paper watermarked with a fleurs de ly surmounting a partial
column. 9 1/2 x 11 3/4 inches. Annotated on the verso in an old hand
reads: "Wash drawing by Thomas Girten from a portfolio of drawings formerly
in the collection of Dr. Thomas Monroe
of 8
Adelphi Terrace. Other drawings from this portfolio were exhibited at the
Victoria and Albert Museum in 1917 - 18. " A different hand reads:
" ? George Simon Harcourt? 1736- 1809."
